Waters Equipment Co. has introduced a completely portable sampler that can be conveniently used to monitor any point within the steam and water cycle of a power plant or boiler room.

Developed to comply with the strict requirements of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) for boiler water quality, the portable sampler provides a valuable tool for taking samples of transient type conditions that would be too fleeting or too much trouble and expense to hook up for monitoring by a centrally located sampling panel.

The Portable Sampler functions as a local grab sample station, or as a pre-conditioner for virtually any analytical device. It is an ideal tool for use in verification or troubleshooting.

Mounted on a rugged hand truck, the Portable Sampler can be taken to any location within the plant to monitor the condition of any sample in real time. Its mobility saves the trouble and expense of having to run what could be hundreds of feet of sample tubing back to the central panel. Furthermore, there may not be room for expansion on the panel to accommodate a new sample line.

Another advantage of sampling at the source is that many samples, such as Heater Drains, LP steam, Deaerator and Condensate, have source pressures that are too low to deliver any significant amount of sample to a centralized panel. When a sample line can produce no more than a trickle of measurable liquid, the instrument readings can be adversely effected. Additionally, any upsets within the process would take an inordinate amount of time to detect, which could lead ultimately to failure of the boiler tubing or deposits on the steam turbine buckets. Every power generator should have a Portable Sampler -- if only for real time verification of these types of samples.

The Portable sampler includes sample isolation and blowdown valves, a fused pump switch and receptacle for instrument power, a high-capacity sample cooler, a gear pump with external relief valve, gauges and flowmeters for sample/analyzer flow rates, sample pressure and temperature displays, and coolant flow verification.

All sample wetted parts are 316 stainless steel or glass. And, the Portable Sampler is easily installed, requiring only 4-5 connections, all easily accessible.
