New Continuous Emissions Monitoring System Offers Dual Analysis For MACT Compliance
The new Thermo Scientific Particulate Matter Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (PM CEMS) is designed to improve accuracy by offering true mass concentration that meets the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-traceable standards for customers seeking to comply with the Utility Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS), Portland Cement Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT), and the Industrial/Commercial/Institutional Boiler MACT. Early electric generators were air-cooled, but as generators became increasingly larger, the use of air as a cooling medium became inadequate. Larger generators produced more heat and required more intense cooling procedures. These larger generators also introduced other complications such as windage losses caused by wind resistance and friction on the spinning generator shaft.
Corrosion control in piping, boilers, and associated equipment is an important issue with power generation facilities. The presence of dissolved oxygen in process waters coming into contact with this equipment is one of the major sources of corrosion.
