FTA RETROFIT SYSTEM PROVIDES PRECISION TEMPERATURE CONTROL FOR BOILER WATER SAMPLE TESTING
Waters Equipment Co. has introduced an FTA Retrofit System designed for users of steam and water analysis equipment (such as power plants) who need secondary temperature control or better temperature control than their existing system provides.

Waters' FTA valves are stainless steel valves that use an internal element which automatically expands or contracts in order to regulate the exiting sample. Hot samples make it expand and force more of the inlet sample down into a sub-chilled bath. The unchilled and chilled streams are then blended as they exit the valve in order to achieve the set point temperature necessary for measurement (such as wet chemistry titration and on-line analysis).

This method requires much less operator attention than the traditional tube and shell cooler (or sample cooler) method, where the cooling water and/or sample flow have to be adjusted to respond to seasonal (coolant) or operational changes. It is also superior to ISD - isothermal baths, which develop "Hot Spots" as a result of improper mixing and channeling.

The FTA Retrofit System uses the FTA valve in a sub-chilled bath in the same manner as if it was supplied as part of the original equipment in the sample panel. The skid can be set alongside the existing panel and supplied with a chiller or can be employed with the user's present chiller, if it is adequately sized.

The user needs only to re-tube the sample lines to and from the FTA valves and to hook up the recirculating water line between the chiller and the retrofit skid.
