Fifth Annual IEEE Power & Energy Society Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference To Showcase Smart Grid Investment Grant Projects
PISCATAWAY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
IEEE, the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, today announced the fifth annual IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT) Conference, being held 19-22 February 2014 at the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel, Washington, D.C. Early registration for ISGT 2014 at a discounted rate ends 20 January 2014.
The IEEE PES ISGT 2014 will highlight several Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the electric power industry. Delegates attending the conference will learn about various SGIG projects during sessions on Wednesday, 19 February 2014, including the Integration of Distributed Energy Resources, Systems Integration and Voltage/VAR Optimization.
“Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, more than 90 SGIG projects have received federal and private funding, totaling US$7.9 billion,” said Saifur Rahman, ISGT 2014 conference chair. “In its most recent SGIG progress report, published in October 2013, the DOE has measured smart grid’s evolution, from equipment installed to new services. Thanks to the involvement of more than 200 utilities and private companies around the U.S., the smart grid has made considerable headway and we aim to celebrate its success at ISGT 2014. Lessons learned from many of these projects will be presented and discussed at this conference.”
In addition to presenting lessons learned from SGIG projects, there will be keynote addresses from Dr. Ernest Moniz, secretary, U.S. Department of Energy (invited); Philip B. Jones, commissioner, Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) and president of the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners (NARUC); and Mark McGranaghan, vice president, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and involved with the IEEE PES Power Quality Subcommittee, Harmonics, Distribution, Intelligent Grid, and Distribution Automation.
Conference attendees will hear and see paper and panel presentations and can participate in discussions on the following topics:
- Scalable Microgrids for Increasing System Reliability, Security, and Resiliency in the Smart Grid Era
- Utility Applications of Power Electronics and Renewable Power Integration
- Updates on Smart Grid Activities in Europe
- Enabling the Smart Grid: The Power of Analytics in Today’s Utility
- Cloud Computing and the Smart Grid: Threat, Menace or Salvation?
- An Empirical Method for Estimating Thermal System Parameters Based on Operating Data in Smart Grids
- Coordination of the Smart Grid and Distributed Data Centers: A Nested Game-Based Optimization Framework
- Assessment of Communication Technologies for a Home Energy Management System
Interested participants can begin planning for future ISGT conferences in 2014, including ISGT Asia 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 20-23 May 2014 and ISGT Europe 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey, 12-15 October 2014.
