ABB Announces Capacitor Application Seminar Set For Orlando In May

Registration now open for special technical training seminar on Power Capacitors for utility, industrial and smart grid applications.

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has announced it will hold its popular annual Capacitor Application Seminar in Orlando on May 20-22 at the Caribe Royale Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando. This will be the 14th consecutive year for this Capacitor Application event.

The seminar, designed primarily for utility and industrial engineers, consultants, EPC and OEM customers, will provide technical training on power capacitors for utility, industrial and smart grid applications. As organizations continue to change, and as long-time engineers retire and new engineers need fresh training, ABB offers this training to help its customers learn more about the application of power capacitors. This includes teaching and discussing system benefits, design, protection, maintenance, troubleshooting and field testing. This is important since ABB’s capacitor unit design is unique from other manufacturers and provides a conservative design with the lowest field failure rate in the industry (0.02 percent).

“We are excited to offer this popular and well-received seminar again to our customers. Attending customers receive strong technical training and a strong sense of ABB’s commitment to quality and reliability, as well as our in-depth offering of capacitor solutions, from transmission, distribution, smart grid and industrial applications,” said John Farnsworth, Marketing Manager, ABB. “We bring in our team of technical experts from across ABB power divisions and businesses, and we invite some of our customers to share their experiences and successes with the group.”

Capacitors are applied to improve the system efficiency of delivering power from generation, transmission and distribution, all the way to the load. An aging infrastructure, shutting down of old or inefficient power plants due to increased regulations, increase use of renewable generation (wind and solar), an increased need for system reliability and power quality – all contribute to a growing market for shunt capacitors today.

ABB is the number one maker and supplier of capacitors in the world, and these capacitors have the highest level of reliability on the grid. ABB capacitors are unique in design – with folded-edge foil technology, soldered element connections, testing above/beyond industry standards and a conservative/robust design provides the key features of its design.
