Throughout many wastewater facilities, turbidity is a major factor in determining the control of the process. Turbidity, or the relative clarity of a liquid, is caused by the presence of microscopic particles in the liquid. Pollution by sewage and industrial wastes contributes organic and inorganic materials, all of which have an objectionable effect on the quality of the water in the stream and its use for domestic and industrial purposes. Thus, turbidimeters are recommended for monitoring municipal and industrial water pollution, in most cases.
