Innovative Lining Process Increases Reliability of Air-Fin Coolers
CTI Industries, a world leader in heat exchanger restoration and reliability, has been awarded a $1.3 million contract from ExxonMobil U.K. for the installation of CTI Full Length Tube Liners™ into damaged Air-Fin Cooler tubes. The existing tubes, made of Carbon Steel, have a limited life which results in costly emergency shutdowns. With improved profitability in the refining industry, a wave of investment is aimed at reliability, raising capacity and boosting product quality. By utilizing Hastelloy C-276 as the Liner material, the coolers are expected to run leak-free indefinitely.
CTI's patented Full Length Tube Liners were developed for units that suffer from full-length corrosion, pitting, general wall thinning or an overage of plugged tubes.
The installation is performed in-situ. Tube I.D.'s are cleaned and the "Liners" (thin-walled tubes) installed. They are then hydraulically expanded to intimate contact with the existing tubes. Finally, the Liners are trimmed and roller expanded at the tubesheet areas, resulting in fully restored tubes.
