Remote Metering Unit (RMU)

The RMU is a miniaturized and cost effective electronic module installed either inside the electrical meter or in a special box adapted to the meter , performing remote meter reading, theft detection and load control commands from the Concentrator. The RMU reads consumption data, calculates demand data and stores it in a non volatile memory, it then sends the data to the Concentrator on the existing power lines using Power Line Communication (PLC) modem. PLC communication is based on a Spread Spectrum technology which provides reliable communication in an electronic noise saturated environment. The RMU receives commands from the Concentrator such as change of tariff and tariff periods ,Customers types, update clock and connect/disconnect of mains . Every RMU processes, stores and transmits its own data. This data distribution technique minimizes the Central Computer processing task while improving the time response and higher level of redundancy. If noise disturbs the two way communication between the Concentrator and remote RMUs, other RMUs can function as smart repeaters. The RMU has a non volatile memory for data protection during power outages and does not require a battery replacement. The RMU can be adapted to interface most meter types and models.

Theft detection is executed through a differential sensor which is included for revealing opposite disk revolution and the RMU also interacts with the Concentrator for additional theft detection levels.

The RMU has a very comprehensive built in test and reporting function that will report power outages, faults and meter tampering.
